Aims:
The aim of the project is the development of a semester-long course of Intercultural Communication (IC) for the Schools of Foreign Languages of Russian Universities with the use of the experience of the Intercultural Communication Institute of Munich University. Another important aim is the creation and support of systematic networking and sharing of experience between Russian universities.

Beginning of the Project: January 2002.

Duration: 4 years.

Description:
The project started in two partner institutions: Orenburg State University and Krasnoyarsk State Pedagogical University. The main aim of the first stage was the creation and introduction of a 30-hour program of teaching Intercultural Communication at Orenburg State University, which had not had such a program previously.

The same program was offered to the graduate students of the School of Foreign Languages of Krasnoyarsk State Pedagogical University, which by that time had had some experience of teaching IC. The program was discussed and evaluated together with the young faculty members.

The aim of the second year of the project was the involvement of more universities into the project activities. Kemerovo State University possessing a Center of In-Service Teacher Training became a new partner capable of the multiplication and dissemination of the project results. At this stage special attention was given to the encouragement of contacts and exchange of experience between different project participants. A conference held in Krasnoyarsk brought together scholars from the partner institutions and experts from other Russian universities. The materials of the conference were published by Krasnoyarsk State Pedagogical University. The German partners also provide consultations for two dissertations in the problems of IC.

The third stage of the project involves the dissemination of its results through the creation and strengthening of the network between Russian scholars. In 2003 Volgograd State Pedagogical University became an active project participant. In December 2004 it hosted a conference on Intercultural communication, which brought together the leading Russian specialists from different parts of the country. In 2004 Tver State University was also included in the project.
